An Irish whiskey tour for 5 nights
Day 1 We start this whiskey tour in Dublin (city) with an easy morning, taking in the Teeling Distillery. The remainder of the day is free time to enjoy the capital, we do know a few pubs to suggest! Overnight in Dublin.
Day 2 We leave Dublin and head into Co Kilkenny to see the origins of Irish whiskey at Ballykeefe Distillery. Back through the ages of Irish whiskey to where it all began at its’ birthplace. The tour is a journey through the whole Ballykeefe operation, a traditional family farm distillery in Kyle, Ballykeefe, Cuffsgrange. Time for lunch locally before heading to Walsh Whiskey Distillery which is located in a majestic 18th century estate, on the banks of the River Barrow. A great place shadowed under 200 year-old oak trees yet a half hour from Kilkenny City, which dates back to 1085. After the tour and taste we head into Kilkenny City where you stay tonight, with so many grand whiskey pubs, you will be spoilt for choice. Of course, we’ll be recommending the best!
Day 3 We head north to tour and taste at two of the more famous distilleries; Tullamore and Kilbeggan. Two very different distilleries producing the wonderful Irish nectar. We return to Kilkenny for another night of fun and drams.
Day 4 Two hours north we visitSlane Distillery, housed in a 250 year old building. Malt, grain and pot stills, you will learn about them all and have a taste to boot! From here to lunch at Dundalk before visiting the Great Northern Distillery. This whiskey distillery operates two pot stills and columns that produce a range of Irish whiskey spirits including grain, triple malt, double malt, peated malt and pot still whiskey. The distillery has a current capacity of 16 million litres of spirit with an opportunity to expand production. It’s then on to your hotel in Dundalk for the night.
Day 5 We sadly come to an end of this tour, as we head back to Dublin. However we have one final tour; explore the fascinating history, compelling characters and of course, the signature Pearse Irish Whiskey at Dublin’s only boutique distillery. This is our final night of the tour, enjoy Dublin.
